From January 4 to January 9, 2026, Michal attended the Texas Quantum Winter School on Open Quantum Systems and Quantum Information in the Chemical Sciences organized by the University of Texas at Austin, USA, at a nearby village of Wimberley, TX.

The school intense schedule was focused on general theory of open quantum systems, introduction to quantum information theory and quantum computing. Several hands-on session gave us opportunity to get familiar with various Python packages developed by the groups of the lecturers (e.g. mesohops, pytenso). We were provided with many tutorial files and examples to work with during the school and later on.

But the week wasn’t only about science. We had also a chance to enjoy the beautiful nature of Texas Hill Country during the breaks and social events organized in the evenings, including a barbecue dinner at Salt Lick BBQ, bonfire nights with S’mores (a traditional American campfire treat made of a roasted marshmellow sandwiched between two crackers with a piece of chocolate), and a serious collective task of putting together a 1000-piece jigsaw puzzle (in which we failed, unfortunately). Thanks to prof Eric Bittner who brought guitars and an ukulele, we had also some musical entertainment during the evenings.

Michal presented a poster titled “Generalized Description of Non-Adiabatic Dissipative Energy Dynamics in Porphyrin Derivatives” during the dedicated poster session.

Attendence at the winter school was made possible thanks to the financial support from the Grant Agency of Charles University and the U.S. National Science Foundation (grants no. CHE-2534158 and CHE-2338663) provided to the winter school attendees by the University of Texas at Austin.
