Tomáš, Pavel, Matteo and Michal had the opportunity to attend the 2026 edition of the international Conference on Multidimensional Spectroscopy (CMDS) organized by the Nanyang Technological University in Singapore from June 22 to June 26, 2026.
The first day was focused on early career scientists, with a dedicated sessions for PhD students and postdocs to present their work. A panel sharing session was also organized to discuss experiences and challenges of early career researchers in the current academic environment. Pavel shared his experience with establishing a research group in the Czech Republic while building a house in his free time.
The main part of the conference was held from June 23 to June 26, 2026, with a series of invited talks and contributed presentations. The conference covered a wide range of topics in multidimensional spectroscopy, ultrafast spectroscopy, quantum optics, open quantum systems theory, and applications in chemistry, biology, and material sciences. Tomáš gave an oral theoretical talk titled “Unified System–Bath and Light–Matter Perturbation Theory for Nonlinear Optical Response” while Pavel talked about our recent work on “Photo-thermal 2DIR and 2DES” (see our recent publication).
Matteo and Michal presented their work in the form of posters. Matteo presented his work on “Multi-Exciton Processes in Ultrafast Nonlinear Optical Spectroscopy” and Michal’s poster was titled “Ultrafast Non-Adiabatic Dissipative Energy Dynamics of Porphyrins: from Explicit to Implicit Model”.
In the freetime, we enjoyed the beautiful city of Singapore, including its famous Hawker food culture and many gardens and parks. WE had plenty of opportunities to discuss science and exchange ideas with other conference participants, pitching multiple new collaborations and future projects. We are looking forward to the next edition of CMDS in 2028, which will be organized by the University of Ottawa, Canada.
